Urban Dictionary

One of the many weird things going around on Facebook right now suggests you should type your first name on Urban Dictionary and share the first definition that comes up. For the record, I am documenting what it says for each of us...

Craig:
SEXY AS HELL
wow, look at Craig! he's a fox!

Jayne:
An oft-misspelled girls' name. Jaynes are usually wildly intelligent and crafty. Likely to take over the world using robot ninja powers and cunning.
I am Jayne, ruler of the universe.

William:(yes, I know this officially is also Craig's name -- play along, people)
A charismastic, charming, handsome, respectful and chivalrous gentleman of high upbringing. A 'Prince Charming' so to speak in many aspects.
My god...he was the man of my dreams...such a William...

Lillian:
the greatest little girl in the world. laughs, loves, hugs, you won't find a girl like her
you can't replace a lillian

Thanks, Santa!

My camera was broken on Halloween night and pics of the kids had to be taken with Liam's Fisher Price camera, much to the amusement of all of you who saw this one on my Facebook page:

So, yeah, well, I guess I was somewhat good this year because Santa brought me a new camera and, while I'm on a bit of an uphill learning curve with it, now we're back to getting photos that look more like this:

And this:

Much better! Thanks, Santa!

Things kids say

Five funny things Liam says:
Gotfor -- As in: Mommy, we gotfor the treats. Or: Daddy, you gotfor to close the door.
Yessiroutly -- In enthusiastic agreement of whatever we've asked him to do.
Open sesame -- A phrase picked up after countless viewings of the bunny movie. Also from this movie: "What a cow poop."
Highsidedown -- which, I think, is actually a very accurate description of being upsidedown.
Bs and Vs -- As in "work glubs," and the t.v. show "Yo Gavva Gavva." Thing is, he can articulate the sounds perfectly, just flips them in some cases. Not sure why he does this, but it's funny.

Five funny things Lily says:
Wheeeeeeeeeeeee
Wooooowwww

Here I am! -- actually, she doesn't really say the words, but has the tone and rhythm down pat.
What's that? -- see above comment
Tanks -- and "wok" for "you're welcome"
Honourable mention -- Uh oh. Always used in perfect context, too, like after she's pitched her cup of milk over the edge of the high chair.

Nana's swing

The Pooh swing is a much beloved toy at Nana's cottage. Here it is in use summer 2005.

And here it is still, summer 2008.

Random outside fun

Being parents to two kids versus one has taught us an important lesson. There is no time for anything. Not even for updating the blog. So here are a few photos of springtime fun for now. Because really, we'd rather be outside playing with the kids.

Liam's movie

"Daddy, I want to watch a movie."

"Sure, Liam, which movie?"

"The bunny movie."

Computer wizard

Here is Liam on my computer (aka: mommy's pomputer). I put up with the sticky mouse and fingerprinted screen because he has so much fun playing on it, and I even catch him learning from time to time.

Over the past six months or so, he has become increasingly proficient at computing. It's actually a little bit scary. Not only can he manipulate the mouse like he was born with it in his hand, he can open up Firefox (two clicks on the orange marble), go to the bookmarks menu, select the specific website he wants to visit from the list of "his" sites (there are eight of them) and then navigate around to the games, videos, and other features. When he gets bored, he simply selects another site and away he goes.

Sometimes the games involve math or reading, which are a bit beyond his reach at this time, but with a little help he does just fine. I'm sure Lily will take to it just as easily. And then they can both teach me.

Liam turns the big oh-three

photo credit: the amazing Anne Marie!

Liam turns three tomorrow, but had his big birthday party on Sunday. Wow. What a party. We welcomed our most favourite family members and friends to our home who literally showered this boy with gifts. He loves every single one -- tried to play with all of them at once yesterday, in fact.

Liam loves all of his aunties and uncles and cousins so much. Even when he doesn't share very willingly (sorry, Grant and Angeline), he's so happy to play with all of you. And thanks to Sarah, the beloved huge cardboard box now has a new purpose: rocket ship to the moon. Previously, if you were wondering, it has been a slide, a garage and a place to hide from ghosts.

I sit here amazed that time has gone by so quickly. Has it really been three years since this day?

Angeline turns the big oh-two

Happy birthday, Angeline! We were honored to be invited to your birthday party and boy did the kids have fun. Liam wants to come back to play in your basement, he asks about it every day. And Lily very much enjoyed all of the cuddles and playing with your balloons.

Oh, please tell your mom and dad that we are still really, really sorry about the wall. Boys. You can't take them anywhere.

It's interesting (to me, anyway) that Angeline and Liam had the exact same due dates, one year apart. January 26 was supposed to be the big day for both. Angeline arrived early, Liam, who is never really in a hurry to go anywhere still, came a few days late.

Happy birthday, sweet little girl!

Say cheese

Here's one of the (many) nifty gifts Liam got for Christmas this year -- a digital camera designed exactly for kids like him. That is, kids that will throw, drop and smear lord-knows-what all over the camera. He is having a lot of fun with it, taking photos of everyone and everything. Mostly feet and walls right now, actually, but as he gets a little bit better some of his works of art will appear on this blog for all to admire.

Jingle Bells

T'was the week before Christmas
And in front of the tree
Contemplating the ornaments
Sat Liam and Lily

(Ok you sort of have to force that rhyme. Sorry, I'll try harder next time.)
